Indiana police searching for man who beat jail guard, escaped
TIPTON, Ind. — Police have been searching a central Indiana cornfield for a man who authorities say assaulted a jail guard and escaped during a hospital trip.
The Tipton County Sheriff’s Department says the man who had been arrested on suspicion of robbing a pharmacy ran away from Tipton Hospital about 1:15 a.m. Thursday. He was taken to the hospital because officers believed he might have been under the influence of drugs.
WRTV reports officers were searching a farm area east of Tipton after a sheriff’s deputy spotted the man in the area some 30 miles north of Indianapolis.
Tipton police Capt. Gordon Tocco says the man is believed to have robbed a pharmacy Wednesday evening, taking prescription medicine and ordering workers into a restroom as he fled.
