Prosecutors want to move jailed cartel lieutenant

Federal prosecutors want to relocate a Mexican drug-cartel lieutenant jailed in Chicago but haven’t said where he’d be taken.

Prosecutors say they’re trying to comply with a judge’s ruling that Vincente Zambada be allowed outdoor recreation while he’s in custody. But they apparently don’t want to offer that recreation while he’s at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown Chicago.

They didn’t offer a reason for the move in court Wednesday.

Prosecutors in the past have said snipers could assassinate Zambada or the 35-year-old could escape from atop the 27-story jail.

Defense attorneys have complained Zambada hasn’t been allowed outdoors since his extradition from Mexico a year and a half ago.

His attorneys say they’ll weigh in on the move once prosecutors reveal where they want to take him.
