Wisconsin man sentenced to three years in prison on gun charge

A 22-year-old Wisconsin man pleaded guilty Monday to possessing a loaded firearm in Palatine.

In exchange for this guilty plea to the class 2 felony of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, Martell L. Warren was sentenced to three years in prison. Warren received credit for the 50 days he has spent in custody. He must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.

Palatine police responding to a report of an armed robbery in progress on Aug. 9, 2010 stopped a vehicle in which Warren was riding, which matched the description of the vehicle the caller provided.

Police recovered a loaded .22 caliber pistol from the glove box of a car, which Warren admitted someone had given him earlier in the day. Warren has a 2008 robbery conviction and therefore cannot legally possess a firearm.

He was not charged with robbery in this case, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Mike Clarke.
