Headless horseman joins‘Halloween in the Hallow’
Submitted by Sleepy Hollow Service Club
The Sleepy Hollow Service Club invites everyone in the village for the annual “Halloween in the Hollow” on Saturday, Oct. 29, in Sabatino Park, off Thorobred Lane in Sleepy Hollow.
At 4:15 p.m., all the kids get to show off their costumes in the parade that is divided into several age categories. Everyone gets some candy, plus they will have a few special prizes for some of the best costumes.
Show off your creativity and artistic skills by decorating your own pumpkin after the parade. The pumpkins and decorating kits are free, and you get to take your creation home at the end of the evening. Travel around Sabatino Park in style with a hayride.
Dust off the secret family recipe or experiment with your favorite ingredients in the laboratory to bring to life the best chili or pie in Sleepy Hollow. Bring your creation to the main tent by 3 p.m. to be entered in the contest for a chance to win a trophy.
In addition to the chili that everyone brings to the event, the Service Club will be selling hot dogs, brats, hot cider and hot chocolate.
The bonfire will be lit at dusk (approximately 5:45 p.m.). Once it’s dark enough and the fire is roaring, the conditions should be just right for a visit from the Headless Horseman. The exact time of his appearance depends on weather conditions and how long it takes to get the bonfire burning.
For information on the chili contests and other activities, visit shsc-il.org, email info@shsc-il.org or call (847) 574-8116. The rain date will be Sunday, Oct. 30.
