Annabella Salonspa in Geneva offers Aveda line and pampering
An interview with Owner Craig Kehler.
Q: Describe your business. What do you do?
A: We are a full service Aveda Salon Spa offering hair treatments, makeup, full spa services, massage, nails, men’s services, health and well being. We are in line with the internationally renowned Aveda concept, special occasions, bridal. A separate Aveda Experience Center (the only Aveda experience center in the Chicago western and north western suburbs) promotes the full line of Aveda products and OPI nail treatments.
Q: What made you start your business?
A: An overwhelming desire to be of service to the public in a fast paced, progressive industry with it’s eye on the pulse of the beauty industry on a global scale.
Q: What has been the most difficult obstacle in running or starting a small business?
A: The greatest challenge are the uncertainties of today’s economy and bringing the highest quality to my clients of which they rightly demand working within the restraints of the downturn of the business climate of today and staying on top and ahead in this highly competitive industry which can change on an almost daily basis.
Q: What do you enjoy most about operating your business?
A: The greatest joy is when my staff is happy and my clients congratulate me on the outstanding service they have received at Annabella which I owe to my management, staff and all who are part of Annabella and the Aveda Corporation.
Q: Is this what you pictured yourself doing when you were young? When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: Growing up, I never envisioned being in this industry. I was interested in law, economics and politics. However, I carved out a very successful career in public relations on a global scale working for some major companies which gave me the opportunity to travel and experience different cultures and traditions which in turn broadened my horizons and outlook.
Q: What keeps you up at night?
A: I worry about the economy, my family and my staff. I know the current uncertain future is a challenge for everybody and my goal is to ensure my staff is secure and my clients receive the best possible service and leave Annabella feeling happy and refreshed.
Q: You could give one tip to a rookie business owner, what would it be?
A: Persevere. Be aware of the challenges and your particular demographic and work with your competition rather than against. Never give up.
