Sheriff's office fields 30+ calls in effort to ID Gacy victims
More than 30 people have contacted the Cook County sheriff's office following a plead to the public to help identify the eight unknown victims of John Wayne Gacy. The sheriff's office asked relatives of any young men who went missing in the 1970s who would have been around the same age as the victims to come forward to provide a comparative sample. “So far, we've been very happy with the results,” said sheriff's spokesman Frank Bilecki. “According to the investigators, some of the people are fitting our parameters as far as age groups we're talking about.” Full story.
Convicted killer sues police over interrogation methods
A man convicted in the 1994 murder of a Waukegan businessman filed as lawsuit against Waukegan police yesterday claiming his confession was coerced, amid new DNA evidence. Blood found in the businessman's vehicle, which was stolen after his murder, and inside his store was matched to a felon who in prison for two armed robberies that occurred weeks after the murder, according to the suit. March planned for 5-year-old Elgin murder victim
As police continue to investigate the gang-related shooting of 5-year-old Eric Galarza Jr., a march against gang violence in his honor is in the works. Two former gang members have planned the march for Saturday starting at the Boys & Girls Club of Elgin at 1 p.m. “I want to motivate people from Elgin in the community to step up ... and want to do something in the fight against gangs,” said Elias Juarez. 19-year-old shot in Carpentersville
Police continue to investigate a shooting that injured a 19-year-old man in Carpentersville Thursday morning. He was shot at least once in the abdomen about 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Berkshire Circle and Wakefield Drive. Police do not have enough information to confirm whether the shooting was gang-related. “We are following up several leads,” Bosshart said. “I think this one's going to be solvable.” Full story.
Elk Grove company charged in $20 million fraud
An Elk Grove Village company that claimed to have sold Homeland Security equipment that would wield millions in profits has been charged with defrauding investors. The SEC claims InfrAegis Inc. and CEO Gregory Webb of Arlington Heights defrauded investors in a $20 million stock scheme. The company never sold a single product during the five years of illegally offering stock to investors, authorities said.
North Aurora man swallows bag of drugs, dies
An autopsy on a North Aurora man who died Wednesday night concluded that he choked on a bag of drugs he swallowed while trying to elude police in Chicago. Kevin Davis, 47, attempted to run from police during a narcotics stop, and officers found him coughing and choking once they caught up with him. Buses on I-55 to ride on shoulder during congestion
Pace express buses on I-55 will soon be allowed to ride on the shoulder when traffic is backed up. Drivers of routes 755 and 855 will be able to drive up to 35 mph, or 15 mph above the speed of vehicles in adjacent lanes, starting in mid-November. Buses will use the inside shoulder during high traffic times on a 15-mile stretch of I-55 between I-355 and Central Avenue in Chicago. #8220;It's a low-cost alternative to bus rapid transit,#8221; Pace spokesman Patrick Wilmot said. U.S., South Korea sign largest trade agreement since NAFTA
The long-delayed trade agreement between South Korea and the United States was celebrated last night during a state dinner at the White House. Kane dominates in Hawks' 4-3 win over Jets
Patrick Kane continued his stellar play as the Hawks' experiment with the former-winger at center continued last night, with a goal and 2 assists in the team's 4-3 win over the Winnepeg Jets. Kane's newly formed line with wingers Marian Hossa and scrapper Daniel Carcillo lead the Hawks.
