Batavia Rotary Club to host document shredding/recycling event April 30

The Batavia Rotary Club will host a document shredding and recycling event on Saturday, April 30, at Calvary Episcopal Church in Batavia.

It will be from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church, 222 S. Batavia Ave. Participants are asked to enter the church parking lot from Main Street via Water Street.

The club will be accepting a maximum of three file boxes for secure shredding; batteries (no car, watch, or hearing aid batteries) for recycling; and books, LPs, keys and musical instruments for recycling and repurposing.

This is the first shredding and recycling event that the Batavia Rotary has hosted but they hope to make it an annual event, according to Terri Dykhuis, an environmental engineer and the club's environment chair.

"It is a great way for us to serve the community and care for the environment," Dykhuis said.

Last year, Rotary International added the environment as one of its areas of focus.

The Batavia Rotary Club has always valued the environment by hosting a regular Main Street Cleanup and most recently by participating in the Friends of the Fox River annual cleanup.

However, the club has stepped up its game by appointing an environment chair to their board of directors and initiating events like this one.
