Police: Paroled convict arrested after fleeing Lincolnshire cops

A paroled convict from Elizabeth, Ill., is back behind bars after leading police on a short car and foot chase through a Lincolnshire neighborhood, police said.

Paris Baker, 34, of the 1500 block of Reusch Road, was charged with felony counts of obstructing justice, resisting a peace officer, and possession of a controlled substance after his arrest at 5:16 p.m. Sunday, Lincolnshire police Detective Adam Hyde said.

Officers spotted Baker slumped over the steering wheel of his car on the 300 block of Old Mill Drive and approached to speak with him, Hyde said. However, when Baker awoke disoriented, he refused to listen to officers who told him to get out of the vehicle, Hyde said.

Instead, he put the car in drive and shot forward through a driveway, around a house, and through a backyard that was in his path, Hyde said.

“He was parked halfway on the driveway and halfway on the street with the house right in front of him,” Hyde said. “So, when he put it in drive, he was able to drive around the backyard of the house and tried to come out the other side.”

However, the car hit a drainage ditch and got stuck. Baker tried to escape on foot but was captured moments later, Hyde said. Officers ran a background check and discovered Baker was on parole in Illinois for many prior felonies, Hyde said.

Baker was charged Sunday with misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of drugs, reckless conduct, criminal damage to property, driving while license is revoked, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and reckless driving.

Baker was taken to the Lake County jail and expected to appear in bond court late Monday, Hyde said.
