We’ve taken the fun out of school

It is tragic that today’s schoolchildren cannot have the same opportunity for fun and games in school that their parents and grandparents enjoyed. Parents are responsible for the nutrition of their children but some schools forbid birthday sweets for fear students will become obese or diabetic. Sweets served occasionally in school will not develop either obesity or diabetes.

Halloween costumes are not allowed because they represent a child’s fantasy hero, some are simple and others are elaborate. Halloween is really All Hallows Eve, which was a festival celebrating the end of summer. The following day is All Saints Day, honoring the deceased.

Forget Thanksgiving because it represents the future of the mistreatment of Native Americans.

Christmas has become a winter holiday based on the Winter Solstice. It is a Christian celebration that has always been shared with non-Christians.

School districts have become too sensitive to satisfying the vocal few while minimizing the importance of the majority. Children have only a few years to have fun in school before they become adults; let them have the same enjoyment as the school board members and teachers had in their youth.
