High school coach charged in attack on teen
A football coach at Chicago’s Fenger High School has been charged with misdemeanor simple assault in connection with allegations two of the school’s coaches were involved in an attack on a teen.
The Chicago Tribune reports (http://trib.in/qSsyCu) 28-year-old Cassius Chambers was charged last week and surrendered to police Oct. 5.
The charge resulted from a fight on Oct. 1, during which 20 to 30 teens attacked 16-year-old Darion Jones and another boy at Jones’ home. Jones’ mother said the attackers accused her son of stealing flip-flops.
Police spokesman Officer Daniel O’Brien says a 17-year-old boy was charged a day after the attack as a juvenile with misdemeanor battery.
Fenger gained international attention after the 2009 beating death of 16-year-old Derrion Albert. Five assailants went to prison for that attack.
