Elvis festival this weekend in Indiana

PORTAGE, Ind. — Hundreds of Elvis Presley fans are expected to gather in northern Indiana to remember the late rock n’ roll icon.

The 19th annual Elvis FANtasy Fest will be held in Portage Oct. 14-16. Event general chairman Kay Lipps tells The Times of Munster the event, a fundraiser for the Porter County Special Olympics, draws about 1,500 people annually.

The event will feature five Elvis tribute artists, including a tribute artist contest. Drummer DJ Fontana of Presley’s backup band is scheduled to appear.

Presley died Aug. 16, 1977. He performed his last concert at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis in 1977.
