Naperville man dies in motorcycle crash

Police continue to investigate a motorcycle crash that killed a 58-year-old Naperville man Saturday afternoon.

George Weikum was riding his 2010 Harley Davidson north on Route 59 near Joseph Street shortly before 4:30 p.m. when the driver of a 2005 Ford truck heading south lost control, crossed over the center median, rolled over and collided with the motorcycle, authorities said.

Weikum was pronounced dead at the scene, Plainfield police said.

The driver of the truck, 32-year-old David Dietrich of Shorewood, was transported to the Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Hospital officials wouldn’t disclose his condition.

Route 59 was closed for several hours between 135th and 143rd streets while the Plainfield police crash reconstruction unit investigated the crash.

Weikum was the owner of G & C Landscape, a Naperville business for the past 29 years. He also played football for the University of Montana Grizzlies during the mid-1970s.
