Police search Hanover Park area near abandoned crashed van
Police were searching an area near the Hanover Park Metra station with the assistance of at least one dog Thursday night after a vehicle smashed into a wall on Barrington Road.
Multiple squad cars were on the scene ]around 6:30 p.m. at the underpass of Barrington Road just south of Route 20, but police would not comment on the investigation.
A van was smashed into the wall of the southbound lanes near the area where police were searching.
Police were inspecting the empty vehicle, and tire marks could be seen where the van abruptly swerved 90 degrees into the wall. The vehicle was later towed from the scene.
Multiple officers could be seen combing the area with flashlights and police dogs across the train tracks about 7:30 p.m.
“The matter is under investigation, and there has been nothing at this time indicating that the public is in any danger,” said Hanover Park Deputy Chief Tom Cortese in an email.
Cortese said the department would not comment on the investigation Thursday night.
