No arrests in fatal Wheeling shooting as 2nd victim remain in hospital
Police haven't made any arrests in the weekend shooting inside a Wheeling apartment building that killed one man and left another hospitalized.
The motive for the shooting remains a mystery, Wheeling Deputy Police Chief John Teevans wrote via e-mail Monday afternoon. Investigators continue to interview people of interest, Teevans added.
The shooting happened shortly before midnight Friday as multiple shots rang out in the front stairwell of an apartment building on the 0-100 block of North Wolf Road. Paramedics rushed Jose Luis-Martinez to Glennbrook Hospital in Glenview, where the 25-year-old Wheeling man died.
A second man, also 25 years old and from Wheeling, was in stable condition over the weekend at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. He remained in the hospital Monday, Teevans said.
No funeral arrangements for Luis-Martinez were available Monday, as the body was still at the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Teevans again called for the public's assistance. If anyone has any information on the shootings, call Wheeling police at (847) 459-2632.
