Letter: Extremists distort president's record
I would like to respond to Lawrence Lustig's op-ed (May 5, "Unbelievable expression of support for Biden"). Mr. Lustig's statement, "The world is laughing at his (Joe Biden) inept administration and the entire cabinet of misfits and miscreants" is hyperbolic and without merit. Can you provide examples to support this?
What President Biden's administration (and his cabinet) has done is restore the decorum and integrity to the White House. America is no longer subjected to daily incendiary tweets as witnessed under the former POTUS. Moreover, the Biden Administration has accomplished much in the past several years: passing the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (the largest investment in America's infrastructure since the New Deal of FDR) and the Inflation Reduction Act (investing in clean energy and promoting domestic manufacturing).
Moreover, Mr. Lustig's comment of Biden's "inept, woke-driven policies" made me pause. Can you provide a specific example of a woke policy of the Biden Administration? Furthermore, can you clarify what "woke" means? The origin of woke harkens back to the 1940s. African Americans invoked this term to waken up to the issues of social justice impacting them.
In addition, Mr. Lustig's statement that former President Obama warned Americans not to underestimate Biden's ability to "screw things up" is overwrought and duplicitous.
The time has come for all Americans who identify as moderates to speak up. We cannot continue allowing the extremists on both the far right and far left to continue high jacking the political narrative currently dominating the United States. Civility, respect, and open-mindedness must replace dogmatic, inflammatory rhetoric lacking evidence of support.
