17 Illinois community colleges win training grant

WASHINGTON— Seventeen Illinois community colleges have been awarded $19.3 million as part of the first round of federal grants for job training and workforce development.

The grants were announced Monday by the U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. Department of Education.

College of Lake County in Grayslake will lead the consortium of schools, which will develop online and classroom training in green economy industries.

The other schools in the consortium are Carl Sandburg College, Danville Area Community College, Heartland Community College, Highland Community College, Illinois Central College, John A. Logan College, John Wood Community College, Kankakee Community College, Lewis & Clark Community College, Lincoln Land Community College, Rend Lake College, South Suburban College, Southeastern Illinois College, Southwestern Illinois College, Triton College and Waubonsee Community College.
