Learn to identify, dispose of invasive plants taking over your yard, woods and preserves

The Fox River Ecosystem Partnership will host a free workshop “Invasive Plants: Nature’s Troublemakers,” presented by Cathy McGlynn, coordinator with the Northeast Illinois Invasive Plant Partnership, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21.

The program is being co-hosted by St. Charles Park District and held at their new Hickory Knolls Discovery Center, 3795 Campton Hills Road, St. Charles. FREP members and members of the community are welcome to attend.

Learn how to identify invasive plants that take over our yards, woods, and nature preserves — crowding out the native plants that provide habitat for birds and animals.

The Northeast Illinois Invasive Plant Partnership is a cooperative weed management area, a regional organization that brings together all interested landowners, land managers. private, city, county, state, and federal, nonprofits, private entities, industry, special districts and the public in the defined geographic boundaries of the Chicago Wilderness region for the purpose of coordinating and combining their resources, expertise and activities for more efficient and effective management of invasive plant species across jurisdictional boundaries. Their mission is to prevent and control new plant invasions, control and manage current invasions, support informed management decisions, and raise public awareness concerning the threat posed by invasive plants.
