Wis. village ex-pres. gets 12 yrs for sex assault

KENOSHA, Wis. — The former president of the Silver Lake Village board has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting two boys.

Kenosha County prosecutors say 73-year-old Ronald Wieland gained access to troubled teens by offering them lodging, drugs and alcohol. They say he assaulted two boys, now aged 18 and 17, over a four-year period.

A pre-sentencing report says Wieland was accused of two other child sexual assaults dating back to the 1960s. It says he resigned as a part-time police officer after one allegation and was never charged.

A Kenosha News report says Wieland read an apology Thursday, saying if he’d received counseling for his own abuse as a child, “I probably never would have done this kind of thing.”
