Chicago walk/run to support prostate cancer charities
The seventh annual SEA Blue Prostate Cancer Walk/Run will be from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, in Chicago’s Lincoln Park (LaSalle and Stockton).
The event, is a collaboration between two locally based, prominent cancer organizations, Us TOO International Prostate Cancer Education & Support Network and Wellness Place. Both organizations offer no-charge programs and services for prostate cancer survivors and their families. According to the National Cancer Institute, more than 217,000 men are expected to receive a prostate cancer diagnosis in 2011, making prostate cancer the second most common male cancer risk. Cost for participating in the 3K walk or 5K run is $35 per adult and $15 per child by preregistration or $40 per adult and $20 per child for day-of registration. Children rates are for ages 6-16. Children 5 and under are free. All paid participants receive an event T-shirt and lunch buffet. Corporate supporters for the event include Novartis Oncology, Dendreon Corporation, UroPartners Prostate Center at the Glen, Abbott, BlueCross BlueShield Association, ProCure Proton Therapy Centers, Cancer Treatment Centers of America and Gameworks. SEA is an acronym for the event#146;s goal to raise funds to Support, Educate and Advocate for survivors and families in the fight against prostate cancer. Individual event participants and teams of survivors, families and friends are currently being enrolled for the event which will feature a 3K walk and a 5K run. Organizers are preparing a fun, family event for all ages, including kids#146; activities, an educational fair and exciting prizes for fundraising.
