Palatine woman gets probation, jail time for credit card theft

A Cook County judge sentenced a Palatine woman to 30 months probation and 30 days in Cook County Jail in exchange for her guilty plea to falsifying information on a credit card slip.

Latonya Floyd, 37, used a credit card that did not belong to her to make purchases totaling more than $2,000 at several Palatine stores, prosecutors said.

Floyd used the victim’s credit card in early December to charge merchandise totaling more than $700 at a Toys R Us store, said prosecutors at Floyd’s bail hearing earlier this year. Sometime between Dec. 6 and Dec. 30, the victim canceled the card, at which time authorities say Floyd began using the new card. On Dec. 30, she purchased $273 from Staples and more than $1,100 from Target, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors did not elaborate on the relationship, if any, between the victim and Floyd, who received credit for the five days she has already spent in custody.
