Buffalo Grove corn roast to benefit breast cancer research and Little City

Prairie House Tavern in Buffalo Grove will fundraise for breast cancer research and for Little City in Palatine at its annual Fall Corn Roast from noon-10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.

The corn roast will raise money for the Susan G. Komen Passionately Pink organization in memory of Barb Hasenberg, who passed away earlier this year from breast cancer.

Hasenberg of Buffalo Grove was active in fundraising efforts in years’ past and hosted the Pink Pedal team, which was honored last year.

The event, the tavern’s third annual fundraiser for charity, also will benefit Little City in Palatine.

Tavern owner Gary Gilliam worked with Barb Hasenberg last year to honor John Anczarski — he and three childhood friends stayed with Barb in 2010 while they were on a cross-country bike ride to raise awareness and money to fight breast cancer.

As their ride crossed through New Mexico and was close to the finish line, Anczarski was struck by a car and died. Their journey is documented at thepinkpedal.wordpress.com.

The Corn Roast will feature live music by The Axidents, Brass from the Past and Timothy Duhig. There will also be drink specials and a buffet featuring the corn roast. The cover cost is $10.

The tavern, at 2710 N. Main St., will offer many items for auction and raffle. For details, call Gary Gilliam at (847) 415-2255; visit www.prairiehousetavern.com or email info@prairiehousetavern.com
