Prospect Heights plans to celebrate street repaving

Prospect Heights Mayor Nick Helmer is promising an “End of the Road” party in mid-November to celebrate the resurfacing of 12 miles of streets in the city.

The project is Phase I of three paid for with a bond issue approved by voters last fall. The other two phases will begin in the spring.

With the help of Cook County, three additional miles were repaved: Wheeling Road from Euclid to Palatine roads and Willow Road from Schoenbeck to Wheeling roads.

“If you so much as blink, you will miss the progress we are making in Prospect Heights,” said Helmer, who won election in April.

In a news release, the mayor also talked about an agreement with the unions representing the city’s police officers that led to the rehiring of three full-time officers and the addition of three part timers. Six officers had been laid off before Helmer took office.

On the “dire need for economic development” Helmer reports a new sports bar and restaurant will open at Prospect Crossings at Rand Road and Thomas Street before the end of the year.

The mayor is also looking for businesses willing to sponsor signs that will be posted at entrances to the city to welcome residents and visitors.
