Lindenhurst church celebrates 50th anniversary

St. Mark Lutheran Church will celebrate its 50-year anniversary Sept. 25.

The yearlong celebration will culminate with a dinner at Midlane Country Club in Wadsworth. Dinner is at 2 p.m. and tickets are still available for members and past members for $7 per person. Please order tickets by Monday, Sept. 12.

St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1822 E. Grand Ave. in Lindenhurst, started as an ALC mission church Sept. 25, 1961. The mission pastor was Harold Nelson, who served for 12 years.

During the next 38 years, two other senior pastors have served the congregation, including Roger Pittman (24 years) and the current pastor, Terry Breum (12 years).

During the 50-year history, St. Mark has grown in ministries and members. They currently have 1,500 members, with nearly 500 worshipping each week at three services.

St. Mark provides numerous outreach ministries, including Lake County PADS, Prison Ministry and by supporting various food pantries. St. Mark is also home for many outside organizations in the surrounding community.
