Ex-Irish coach Corwin Brown arraigned

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Former NFL player Corwin Brown has been arraigned on two counts of confinement and one count of domestic battery stemming from a nearly seven-hour standoff with police last month.

Brown was being released Monday from the St. Joseph County Jail on $5,000 bond.

Prosecutors allege Brown held his wife hostage with a handgun and bruised her during the standoff on Aug. 12. Brown hospitalized with a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the standoff.

Brown’s family has said they believe his actions may stem from brain trauma sustained from playing football. Brown played eight seasons in the NFL as a defensive back with the Patriots, Jets and Lions. He is also a former defense coordinator at Notre Dame.

A message seeking comment was left Monday for Brown’s attorney, William Stanley.
