Indiana stage collapse victim home

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — A 21-year-old woman critically injured in the deadly stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair has returned home but faces months of recovery.

The mother of Caitlyn Kahlenbeck of Mishawaka (mish-ah-WAH’-kuh) says the family brought her home Tuesday night — 10 days after strong winds blew down the outdoor concert stage. Seven people have died from their injuries.

Shelly Kahlenbeck tells the South Bend Tribune that her daughter has 24-hour home care and is expected to be in a neck and body brace for at least four months.

Caitlyn Kahlenbeck spent several days on a ventilator after suffering a brain injury, a broken collarbone and broken ribs that punctured her lungs.

Her mother says she doesn’t remember the accident, but no permanent brain injury is expected.
