West Dundee’s Gillam enters Kane County board race

The West Dundee area may have as many as three options for representation when ballots are printed for the Kane County Board’s District 21 seat next year.

West Dundee Village Trustee Becky Gillam entered the race Wednesday. Former Kane County Board Member Lee Barrett announced his plans to run last month. Incumbent Tim Haley has not committed to re-election so far but has said he’s “leaning toward” another term.

Gillam has served on the village board since 2007. She was re-elected in April with no opposition. Gillam has pushed for beautification efforts and environmental concerns during her tenure in West Dundee. She has overseen a push toward the “greening” of the village with the purchase of hybrid police vehicles, plantings on the Riverwalk and creation of an Earth Day project in downtown.

She also has shown support for taxing bodies sharing resources to cut costs and has been a vocal supporter of the Longmeadow Parkway.

Gillam volunteers on Community Unit District 300 school committees and currently works at Platt Hill Nursery in Carpentersville.

“One thing that I’ve learned while serving on a village board is the value of hard work and dedication,” she said in a written statement. “I ask the questions that need to be asked, and do the research that needs to be done in order to best represent those who have elected me. I will use my governmental experience to continue to provide solid, basic services while identifying and implementing efficiencies wherever possible.”
