No bail for teen charged in pregnant girl’s death

An 18-year-old facing first-degree murder charges in the shooting of a pregnant Chicago teenager whose baby was saved by doctors is being held without bail.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported Timothy Jones appeared in court Monday. His family refused to comment after the hearing.

According to authorities, Jones shot 17-year-old Charinez Jefferson on Aug. 16 as she was walking back from a store in the city’s Marquette Park neighborhood.

Prosecutors allege Jones is a gang member and Jefferson was walking with a member of Jones’ rival gang. Jefferson suffered multiple wounds to the body and one shot to her head.

Authorities say Jefferson was later pronounced dead at a hospital, but doctors saved her baby boy. The baby remains in critical condition.

Nobody else was hurt in the shooting.
