Kids have a kick at Barrington agency soccer tournament

Barrington Youth & Family Services hosted its annual Summer Soccer Program Tournament from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, at Faith Lutheran Church, in Carpentersville.

More than 60 students in grades four-12 registered for the free summer soccer program, practicing with agency counselor Brian Garibaldi twice per week.

The 2011 BYFS Summer Soccer Program was sponsored by the Barrington Noon Rotary, which donated socks, shin guards, jerseys and soccer balls for all participants. At the tournament, Barrington Noon Rotary volunteer John Gillett manned the lunch grills with BYFS staff and distributed awards to all participants and to the winning teams.

In the fourth- through sixth-grade age group, BYFS’ Team Gio took first place. In the Middle/High School age group tournament, the championship was taken by a combined team of BYFS and FC-Barrington players.
