Driver located after Palatine hit-and-run

The driver who fled a Monday afternoon crash in Palatine that injured a young child was located by police at an Arlington Heights home about four hours after the collision, according to authorities.

The man, whose name was not available Monday night, fled the scene of the crash about 4 p.m. near the intersection of Route 53 and Dundee Road, police said.

Cook County sheriff’s deputies said the driver of the Honda with license plate K132981 fled east on Dundee Road from the intersection in the heavily damaged vehicle.

The Honda was traveling east on Dundee Road approaching the intersection of Route 53 when it hit an SUV, sending it into a light pole. The SUV then slid into oncoming traffic on Dundee. A mother and small child were in SUV, and the child was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights with what appeared to be minor injuries, Palatine fire officials said.

Arlington Heights paramedics assisted the Palatine Fire Department, Palatine police and Cook County sheriff’s deputies at the scene.

The intersection was shut down while crews cleared the damaged vehicle from the scene.
