Woman admits slitting husband’s throat

A Romeoville woman has been sentenced to 8½ years in prison for stabbing her estranged husband and using a paring knife to slit his throat.

The Herald-News in Joliet reports 33-year-old Nicole Sodt of Romeoville pleaded guilty Thursday to attempted murder. A Will County judge handed down the sentence for the July 2009 attack. Sodt had filed for divorce earlier that year.

Her father, Charles Simpson, said he doesn’t excuse the attack. But Simpson says his daughter was in a bad marriage and suffered from “classic battered wife syndrome.”
