Gurnee police arrest pair in car break-ins

Gurnee police announced a pair of arrests in car burglaries in the village.

Police said they arrested Helen M. Brylinke, 36, of Beach Park, and Jeremy S. Gilliam, 23, from Waukegan, on three counts of felony burglary.

The arrests came after officers were called at 7:14 a.m. July 26 regarding an auto burglary complaint from customers at Gold’s Gym, in the 1700 block of Nations Drive. As officers were processing the scene, a second auto burglary was discovered at the same location.

A short time later information was received from the Vernon Hills Police Department that it had suspects in custody for a vehicle burglary occurring at a YMCA there. Gurnee detectives were dispatched to the Vernon Hills police department to conduct an investigation, which led to the charges against Brylinke and Gilliam, police said.

Police said the duo would smash vehicle windows and take purses from within. They then used the victims’ credit cards to make purchases at stores, according to police.
