Ela Library to feature series on Louisa May Alcott

The Ela Area Public Library will host a series of events in August celebrating the life, times and works of the popular classical literature author Louisa May Alcott. Geared for all ages, events and discussions are free and will be held at the library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich, unless noted. For information and to register visit www.eapl.org.

Civil War Spy: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10. Actress Lynn Rymarz portrays Sarah Emma Edmonds — soldier, nurse and spy in the Union Army in this presentation honoring the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Follow her journey and adventures in hospitals, battlefields and across enemy lines as a spy.Kelly O#146;Connor McNees Book Talk and Signing: 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10. Before she became an international celebrity, Louisa May Alcott published #147;Hospital Sketches,#148; an engaging portrait of her work as a nurse for wounded soldiers during the winter of 1862-63. Drawn from Alcott#146;s account, actress Leslie Goddard provides a striking insight into the women who transformed the all-male profession of nursing during the America#146;s Civil War.
