Four years after arrest, man admits to murder

Nearly four years after his arrest, the suspect in the death of a suburban Chicago teenager has pleaded guilty to murder charges.

Andrew Morrow of Lockport Township was 17-years-old when he was arrested in December 2007 in the death of 16-year-old Kaylor Spells.

Morrow on Tuesday apologized to Spells’ family after he entered his guilty plea.

In sentencing Morrow to 25 years in prison, Will County Circuit Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak said he will get credit for the nearly four years he’s been in custody before admitting to the murder. She also said the man will no longer face two sexual assault charges.

On the morning of Aug. 16, a jogger in Lockport’s Dellwood Park found Spells’ body. Police said the victim was partially clothed and she had been strangled.
