Rahm Emanuel joins anti-gun group

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has become a member of the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

It’s a bipartisan coalition made up of hundreds of mayors nationwide. The group’s website says other Illinois mayors are a part of the group too. They include Elizabeth Tisdahl in Evanston, Christopher Koos in Normal and Lawrence Morrissey in Rockford.

In a statement, Emanuel says almost half of the guns recovered in Chicago come from outside Illinois. He says Chicago has to work with other cities to fight gun trafficking and pass federal legislation.

The group was founded in 2006 and is co-chaired by New York City Michal Michael Bloomberg.

Chicago officials say more than 80 percent of murder victims last year were killed with a gun.
