Batavia Parks Foundation seeks board member
The Batavia Parks Foundation has an immediate opening on its board of directors. The Foundation is a local, independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving and expanding Batavia's parks and green spaces.
Established in 2003 by business and civic leaders, the Foundation bridges the gap between public resources and the needs of the Batavia parks system. The Foundation recently raised funds to bring the SpaceNet back to Engstrom Park and completed an expansion project to add a performing arts pavilion to the Peg Bond Center at the Batavia Riverwalk.
A Foundation Board Director is one of five individuals who volunteer their time to make a difference on issues related to parks and open spaces in Batavia. The open seat will serve the remainder of a 3-year term that commenced in November 2008 with the option to be reappointed by the board in November 2011.
Directors provide direction, motivation and guidance. They may also be called upon to initiate and carry out fund-raising campaigns.
The board needs people with ideas, enthusiasm and a commitment to the community. Foundation board directors attend monthly board meetings and participate in special advisory committees on an as-needed basis.
Citizens interested in applying for a seat on the Batavia Parks Foundation Board must submit a letter of interest including their prior community involvement. A personal resume may also be included but is not required.
Letters of interest should be sent to the Batavia Parks Foundation, c/o Mike Clark, 327 W. Wilson, Batavia, IL 60510.
Letters should be received no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16. For more information, please contact Mike Clark, executive director of the Batavia Park District, at (630) 879-5235 ext. 2008.
