Police: Barrington Quiznos bandits were professionals
Barrington Police are looking for the public's help to determine the identities of two men who used power tools to pry open one safe, then drag a second safe away from a Quiznos Sub Shop early Sunday morning.
The thieves, who were caught on video surveillance tape in the process of breaking into the safe, robbed the fast food chain in the 100 block of Northwest Highway between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. early Sunday morning, said Detective Sgt. Kevin Croke of the Barrington Police Department.
Croke said the men used power tools to break into and steal about $1,300 from the first safe, Then, they dragged a second safe containing about $800 from the property.
They also used the tools they brought in to pry open a locked cash drawer that contained about $300.
“This wasn't your typical burglary where someone throws a rock through the window,” Croke said. “This was a professional crew that put some thought into the crime. They brought in their own equipment, did some surveillance of the store before hand and knew what they were doing.”
Croke said the two crooks spent about 26 minutes in the store prying open the first safe, opening the cash drawer, then pulling the second safe out and carting it away.
In addition, Croke said the two cut the Internet and phone lines at the store before breaking in through the rear door of the sandwich shop in order to shut off all alarms and Internet feeds.
Croke said the two man crew have been linked to potentially four other robberies in the area. He said the investigation is continuing.
The offenders wore dark-colored clothing, gloves and black masks that covered their faces, Croke said, and escaped in a car that was parked nearby.
Anyone with information about the men or burglary is asked to call the Barrington Police Department at 847-304-3300.
