Naperville Police Department Offers Citizen Police Academy for Residents
The Naperville Police Department will once again offer the Naperville Citizen Police Academy classes beginning in September. Naperville residents are encouraged to take part in this program which allows citizens the opportunity to learn about the issues that affect law enforcement efforts in the City of Naperville.
This is a program designed to give citizens a working knowledge of the Naperville Police Department and provide an in-depth view into various areas of law enforcement. The Academy meets once a week from 6:30 pm until 9:30 pm for 13 weeks and topics are both educational and informative. Instruction consists of classroom lectures, discussions, and hands-on demonstrations. Course content and activities dictate that class size is limited to 25 participants.
Since Community Oriented Policing plays an important and vital role in reducing crime in any community, the Naperville Police Department instituted the Citizen Police Academy to improve communication and obtain citizen input and support throughout the city. When residents take a more personal interest in their city, and the protection of their community and neighborhoods, they enjoy a safer and closer relationship with their neighbors. The Academy will allow citizens to have a more interactive association with the Naperville Police Department and to become partners with them in identifying problems and solutions to the crime issues that are affecting their respective neighborhoods and their city as a whole. It is hoped that graduates will take their knowledge back to their neighborhoods where they can use it to enhance the safety and quality of life in Naperville.
The Citizen Police Academy is also designed to help the residents of Naperville better understand how the police work in their community. It is hoped that all participants of the Academy will get to know more about the men and women who are protecting their city and why they make the decisions they do while performing that duty.
