River Road reconstruction complete

Work on the reconstruction of Des Plaines River Road from Higgins Road to Touhy Avenue wrapped up July 1 ahead of the much-anticipated grand opening of the Rivers Casino on July 18.

The River Road project started a year ago on June 21. The work, completed under general contractor F.H. Paschen of Chicago, involved the total reconstruction of the roadway pavement, installation of new traffic signals, roadway lighting, curbs and sidewalks, and widening the road at the casino entrance.

“The city of Des Plaines had great cooperation from the state of Illinois,” Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan said in a news release. “Without the cooperation of the Illinois Department of Transportation, the village of Rosemont, Midwest Gaming & Entertainment and numerous private utilities, the River Road Reconstruction Project would not have been possible.

“Working together with our Engineering Department, the project was finished on time. Our main objective was to finish before the Rivers Casino opened and we did,” he said.
