Metal products company cited for safety violations

WATSEKA, — An Illinois metal products company has been cited with safety violations after two workers suffered amputation injuries at the firm's Watseka metal stamping facility.

T&D Metal Products was cited by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

The company faces proposed fines of more than $200,000 and may contest the findings.

OSHA area director Tom Bielema says the company failed to ensure machine guarding and safety procedures were in place even after a worker was injured. The amputation injuries occurred on Jan. 10 and Jan. 18.

OSHA has placed the company in its Severe Violator Enforcement Program, which requires targeted follow-up inspections. The company has been cited by OSHA for 47 violations since 1988.

A telephone message left for T&D Metal Products was not immediately returned.
