Algonquin man killed in I-90 crash near Roselle Road

A 42-year-old Algonquin man was killed late Wednesday morning after his SUV slammed into the back of a construction vehicle parked on the shoulder of I-90 in Hoffman Estates, police said.

Raymond Regalado was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge following the 11:35 a.m. crash, Illinois State Police Sgt. Nick Hasan said.

Regalado was pronounced dead at the hospital at 12:18 p.m., the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

Police said Regalado was driving a 2001 Honda CRV in the eastbound lanes of the Jane Addams Tollway when he veered off the road and struck a construction vehicle parked on the right shoulder near Roselle Road.

The crash forced police to shut down at least one lane for about 90 minutes, which caused a 6-mile backup, Hasan said.

Police said no one was in the construction vehicle when the crash occurred, and there were no other injuries.

An investigation into what caused Regalado to veer off the road is ongoing.
