Barrington program sheds light on U.S. debt crisis
The Government Affairs Council of the Barrington Chamber of Commerce will present a free educational seminar on the U.S. debt crisis at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at the Barrington Area Public Library, 505 N. Northwest Highway, Barrington.
John Dawson and a group of concerned citizens, business people, teachers and parents have created a seminar and website to educate the American public on the U.S. debt crisis and to offer key resources to assist in attaining credible and accurate data.
As Washington legislators debate the 2012 U.S. budget, and are forced to deal with the U.S. Debt Ceiling in August, 2011, it is important that every voting American knows where to find the truths regarding the U.S. debt crisis. It has been noted by this group of concerned citizens, that many TV commentators and journalists, and some in political office, continually misstate the facts.
The chamber wishes to educate and inform the area businesses and community residents.
The group will learn how to find the data using the U.S. Budget and U.S. Treasury reports to determine if the following statements and other commonly reported statements are true or false:
Ÿ The debt crisis can be solved without touching entitlement programs.
Ÿ If only corporate America paid their fair share of taxes.
Ÿ Less than 50 percent of American citizens pay taxes.
Ÿ Medicare and Social Security are well funded and there is no fear of them going bankrupt.
Ÿ China holds half of our debt.
Ÿ The crisis can be resolved by only reducing expenses and not raising taxes.
Registration for this informative complimentary session is required in advance due to seating capacity. Those interested in attending may contact the chamber office at (847) 381-2525, or online at barringtonchamber.com.
