UIC athletes set grade point average record

Student athletes at the University of Illinois' Chicago campus have set an academic record.

Athletes collectively earned a cumulative grade-point-average 3.06 during the spring semester. That's the highest such mark in school history. A total of 28 athletes had a perfect 4.0 GPA; and 132 athletes had a GPA of at least 3.0.

The women's tennis team finished the spring term with the top cumulative GPA among all UIC teams, with a 3.76 mark.

Athletic Director Jim Schmidt says the marks show UIC's commitment to helping athletes "make the grade."
