Man who killed suburban tourist gets life sentence

MIAMI — A South Florida man convicted of fatally shooting an tourist from South suburban Homewood has been sentenced to life in prison.

A Miami-Dade judge rejected a jury’s death penalty recommendation Wednesday when sentencing 26-year-old Brandon Antron Rolle. Rolle was convicted in October of first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm.

Authorities say Ronald Gentile had pulled over in Coconut Grove to ask for directions in 2006 when a man dressed in black approached the car, robbed and shot him.

Prosecutors pointed to Rolle’s finger print being found in the victim’s rental car as a sign of guilt. Rolle’s girlfriend testified that Rolle used the victim’s cellphone and that he had her pawn some of the stolen items.
