Sky scouting report
Sky (3-1) at Connecticut Sun (3-1)
When: Noon
Where: Mohegan Sun Arena
TV: WNBA.com LiveAccess
Last time: On Friday, the Sky defeated the visiting New York Liberty, 85-73; on Thursday, the visiting Sun defeated the Washington Mystics, 79-71.
Skinny: It’s a battle for sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference. The Sky and Sun are tied at the top of the standings, each on mini winning streaks of three and two games, respectively ... The Sky is coming off another impressive win at Allstate Arena, where it is 3-0. With a season-high 27 points and 11 rebounds from center Sylvia Fowles and 17 points from guard Epiphanny Prince, the Sky was able to cruise to a victory over the Liberty, which won the Eastern Conference last year. Another key in the victory was Prince’s defense on all-star guard Cappie Pondexter, who hit just 4 of 16 field goals ... The Sky is starting to get a reputation for sticking it to the big guns. In the Sky’s home victory over Connecticut last week, center Tina Charles, the WNBA’s rookie of the year last year and a double-double specialist, was held to just 8 points and 4 rebounds. She’s fresh off a big game, though. In the Sun’s victory over the Mystics on Thursday, Charles pumped in 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, numbers that she was accustomed to getting last season. Connecticut, which also got 23 points from slippery guard Renee Montgomery in the Washington game, is 2-0 at home.
