Firefighter injured in major Kildeer blaze
One firefighter was injured during a roaring Kildeer house fire early Monday evening, according to fire officials.
Firefighters from Lake Zurich requested assistance from 17 area departments to battle the three-alarm blaze on the 21300 block of Brandon Road when the first responding units found the three-car garage engulfed in flames, according to the Lake Zurich Fire Department.
It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the fire, which started just after 6 p.m., under control, said Lake Zurich Fire Captain Bob Bachler.
Bachler credited not only the Lake Zurich firefighters, but also the assisting units who were able to keep the flames contained to the garage, kitchen and attic space.
One firefighter from an assisting department sustained minor injuries during the blaze and was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital near Lake Barrington.
Although the fire was mainly contained to the garage, kitchen and a portion of the attic, the entire house was significantly damaged by smoke, Bachler said.
The front end of an SUV on the driveway also appeared to be damaged by the flames.
Fire officials said the area did not have hydrants, which made the fight more difficult and required the large number of assisting departments.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A damage estimate was not available Monday night, but the building was deemed uninhabitable.
The Lake Zurich Fire Department was assisted by departments from Barrington, Long Grove, Cary, Countryside, Palatine Rural, Nunda, McHenry, Round Lake, Buffalo Grove, Fox River Grove, Wauconda, Grayslake, Mundelein, Wheeling, Lake Forest, Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights.
