Joliet man gets 90 years for rape

Prosecutors in Will County say a Joliet man convicted earlier this year of forcing his way into a woman’s home and raping her has been sentenced to 90 years in state prison.

In a news release, State’s Attorney James Glasgow says the judge on Wednesday handed down the maximum sentence to 46-year-old Russell Amos Jr.

Amos was convicted in April of aggravated criminal sexual assault and home invasion after a trial in which prosecutors alleged he’d followed a woman into her home in 2009, raped her, beat her and choked her.

Prosecutors had asked for the maximum sentence, in large part because of a violent criminal history that includes a 1988 kidnapping conviction in Georgia.
