Angel Drill Team founder retiring

Nathaniel Hamilton, founder and instructor of the legendary Angel Drill Team in Lake County, has announced his retirement effective when the season ends on Labor Day weekend. Hamilton, a retired Navy chief and drill instructor who lives in Gurnee, founded the group in 1967. Angel Drill Team is the only all-girl synchronized rifle tossing and twirling marching champions in the United States. More than 1,500 Lake County girls have been Angel Drill Team members. The Angels marched in President Barack Obama’s inaugural parade. A banquet honoring Hamilton is set for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 3 at Greenbelt Cultural Center near North Chicago.
