Elk Grove Village annexes BP

The Elk Grove Village board Tuesday night approved the annexation of BP Products North America’s facility — roughly 36 acres at the northeast corner of Elmhurst Road and Touhy Avenue in unincorporated Cook County — into the village’s corporate limits. The storage facility already is within the village’s fire protection district. Elk Grove Mayor Craig Johnson said BP has been at that location for 50-some years and has been a good neighbor. “Having them become part of the community would be a positive thing for the village,” he added. Annexation would allow BP to tap into the village’s water system, and increase the village’s property tax revenues. BP plans to add storage tanks at the Elmhurst and Touhy facility and upgrade its fire suppression infrastructure. Jet fuel stored at the facility is piped into O’Hare International Airport and sold there, Johnson said.
