Woman rescued from Gurnee fire

Gurnee firefighters rescued a woman from a townhouse blaze late Saturday night.

Firefighters said they received a call at 11:17 p.m. from a neighbor reporting a fire at 174 Wellington Circle.

When they arrived three minutes later, rescue crews found heavy smoke on the first floor of the two-story home. Firefighters said they forced entry through the first-floor door, found the fire in the kitchen, put out the flames and ventilated the unit.

Firefighters found the woman unconscious and pulled her from the building. She was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where, according to fire officials, she was treated and released. Further information was not immediately available Sunday.

It appears the fire started in the kitchen as a result of the stove being left on, firefighters said. However, the cause remains under investigation.

There is no word yet on the extent of the damage to the building.

Four engines, one ladder truck and three ambulances responded to the call. Assisting Gurnee firefighters were units from Zion, Newport and Waukegan fire departments.
