Health officials in Chicago offer free HIV testing
CHICAGO — It's National HIV Testing Day and health officials at a Chicago clinic are offering free and anonymous testing to the public.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 1.1 million Americans are living with HIV and more than 20 percent of people don't know they're infected. Two yearly tests are recommended.
The Howard Brown Health Center in Chicago is one of the country's largest health care organizations. The center is offering free and anonymous testing at its walk-in clinic on Monday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Howard Brown was founded in 1974. The clinic primarily serves the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
